Mark Schwartz is a retired Air Force Lt. Colonel with 1550 flying hours in the F-4 Phantom and was embedded in Army units for close air support duty. His bachelors is in political science from Ohio State (also a distinguished Air Force ROTC graduate) and has a masters in WWII studies from ASU. He currently heads the SaddleBrooke WWII Roundtable, has taught at the SaddleBrooke ILR, the Oscher Lifelong Learning Institute and Pima Air Museum. A resident of SaddleBrooke for 11 years, he enjoys hiking, astronomy, music and model railroads.

Description
This course will illuminate and relate events in the US foreign policy/activism that made an impact on world history from WWII through the Cold War. What binds these events together is America’s belief that we could and should be a dominant player on the world stage. The topics:
Sinking of the Reuben James
Operation BLACKLIST (US military occupation of Japan)
The Formation of NATO and how the US dominated this alliance
Cuban Missile Crisis
Vietnam, the almost resignation of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
Sputnik and Spying – Eisenhower’s secret agenda
