Description

The Sonoran Desert, sprawling over 120,000 square miles, is recognized by scientists, naturalists and travel writers as the lushest desert in the world.  This course will first look at the physical aspects of the Sonoran Desert, touching on geography, climate and weather patterns.  The second and third parts will feature the plants and animals most associated with this environment, emphasizing those of local interest.  And, finally, we will look at conservation efforts, goals and challenges.  This is the Sonoran Desert…and we live here!  In fact, SCOV sits right on one of the most biologically extravagant corners of the entire Sonoran Desert.  We are fortunate to be able to experience what this desert has to offer each morning when we go out our front doors.
