Description
Many of the national parks in the western United States were established because of their unique geology and beautiful scenery. This course offers a captivating journey through select national parks in the “lower 48” using these landscapes to explore geological concepts. We will discuss dynamic geologic processes such as plate tectonics, volcanism, glaciation and erosion. Specifically, we will explore topics such as the uplifting of the Colorado Plateau, the volcanic activity of Yellowstone and the Cascades, the erosional power of the Colorado River and the glacial sculpting of the Sierra Nevada and Rocky Mountains.
