Presenters: Cynthia Meier, Executive Director and Joseph McGrath, Artistic Director are the co-founders of the Rogue Theatre. Cynthia holds a Ph.D in Performance Studies from the University of Arizona, has adapted and directed at least 50 plays at the Rogue and won numerous awards. Joe is a graduate of the Juilliard School of Drama in New York City, has toured nationally with the John Houseman Acting Company and has performed with Ballet Tucson, Arizona Opera, Arizona Theatre Company, and many roles with The Rogue. Description
Co-founders Joseph McGrath and Cynthia Meier will present the joys and challenges of running the highly acclaimed Rogue Theatre, a small professional theater company in downtown Tucson. Meier and McGrath are not only actors and directors, but the scenic and costume designers for their 170-seat theatre housed in the Historic Y. The class will cover the 22 year history of the theater, the importance of working with classical texts, creating an ensemble of actors who work and learn together, and their approach to the design and creation of theatrical art. They will also perform a short scene and soliloquies. An optional follow-up ‘backstage tour’ of the Rogue will be scheduled.
