Description
Whether you enjoy theater or not, a tour of the Fox Tucson Theater built in April 1929, when
vaudeville was king is truly worth the visit. You will experience a first-hand view of the inner
workings of a live theater and see what the general public does not see and what makes this
theater so special. You will be surprised at its history, its beauty, and learn about the variety of
entertainment it housed over the years. It even hosted the Tucson Chapter of the Mickey
Mouse Club! The theater was originally designed to be a dual vaudeville/movie house that
would include a stage, full fly loft and dressing rooms underneath the stage. The Tucson
Theater Foundation purchased the building in 1999 and immediately began to restore the
theater to its original beauty. It reopened in 2005 in all its spectacular glory. The building is
listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a Nationally Significant Structure due to its
unique décor and special acoustical treatment. Lots of stairs on this trip.
