Programs

In both fall and winter terms, members can take four- or six-week courses or two-plus classes that consist of two in-person classes and an optional off-site visit to a related place.

LEARNING ON THE MOVE

LOM is one of three program areas of the Institute of Learning in Retirement overseen by the Curriculum Committee:  multiple day courses, single Sampler lectures and day-educational trips.  All three are scheduled during two 8 week terms: Fall (October/November), Winter (February/March).

LOM participants must be ILR members (one-time only fee of $25.00); individual tours have a fee of $15.00.  All registrations are conducted online through ILR’s website (suncityilr.com).

Each LOM is organized and managed by volunteer co-leaders. Tour descriptions are posted on the website along with dates and size limitations.  Logistical details will be provided by the co-leaders.

SAMPLERS

Samplers are one-hour presentations on a wide variety of topics.  The widely popular Samplers are held on Thursdays at 2 p.m. in Catalina Vista during both fall and winter sessions during the months of  October, November, February and March.  Presenters, often professors from the University of Arizona, are experts in their fields.  There is no fee to attend and all SCOV residents are welcome.

SPECIAL EVENTS

From time to time, ILR co-sponsors free events open to all residents in Sun City; ILR membership is not required. There are summer (July) and winter (January) movie matinees co-sponsored with the Sun City Library utilizing the Library’s vast video collection.

The Golder Ranch Fire Department arranges a two-part series in January through ILR to update residents on safety procedures and services it provides.

Check the monthly Tipster and the weekly This Week in SCOV for more details.

The ILR supports the Library by providing funds to assist in adding to the Library’s collections and bringing authors to speak at SCOV.
