From D-Day to Victory

On June 6, 2024, Americans, Canadians and Europeans will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Normandy invasion.  This was the most complex invasion by sea in world history.  The Allied victory on the beaches and inland in Normandy set the stage for the liberation of Europe and the destruction of the Nazi regime. This course will examine the Allied and Axis actions that made D-Day possible, the preparations for the invasion, the events of the day itself, and the aftermath in the European war.

Presenter:  Jim Williams taught secondary social studies for 35 years and has taught ILR courses on U.S. and local history since 2008.  He recently published Oro Valley: The First Fifty Years, a history from incorporation to the present.

3 Mondays at 9:00 a.m., February 19, 26 and March 4 in the Activity Center’s Kiva Room.
